Lettuce and Lilacs

Lettuce and Lilacs

One of the first things to be planted in my garden is lettuce.  If we wait too long it just doesn't grow well in our hot summer climate.  The lettuce is still small as you can see in the photo above, but it did get some nice rain yesterday.  Perhaps I should have done a bit of digging around it before I snapped the photo.  There's always so much to be done in the garden!

The lilacs, however, pretty much take care of themselves this time of year.  They should be pruned back later in the season after they bloom, which will be in only a few short weeks.  See the buds forming in these photos?  We have two lilac bushes in our back yard to enjoy:  the beautiful lavender one that you can see above and the fresh and lovely white ones in the photo below.  It's hard to wait for them . . . don't you just love the smell of lilacs?

    1. Lilacs are one of the best things about spring, and we're looking forward to the lettuce. Thanks for dropping by.
