A to Z Challenge: Gully

Gully, pictured above was with my DH and I much of the time during our courtship, and played a large role in many of our adventures.   I asked DH where Gully's name came from . . . Gully is just Gully.   That's just the way it is.   Gully carried us on many trips from our college town the summer we met:  home to meet and visit with each other's parents and family . . . to reunions and pageants and dances and concerts and weddings and up canons and over mountains and plains.  DH and Gully and I covered a fairly large portion of our state that summer.   Sometimes we invited other friends and roommates along, and sometimes it was just Gully and DH and I and the music from DH's collection of cassette tapes.  We talked, of course, but neither of us was uncomfortable with long periods of silence either.  It was comfortable traveling together.

Several times there were car problems, and one memorable evening we had to find a phone so we could call my brother to come and rescue us.  Fortunately we were not more than a half hour away from home by then.

Gully remained behind when I left for Colombia, and served DH well, even taking other girls on dates on occasion, but when I returned was ready to continue to transport us with care, even putting up with the tin cans and cookies and shaving cream decorations he received at our wedding reception.  Of course we cleaned him up a bit before we left for the honeymoon, but he carried us safely there and back again to our new home.  Gully is gone now, but we remember him fondly.  He was a big part of our courtship and newly married life.
